Coverage Options for Jet Skis, WaveRunners, and Sea-Doos, From Carriers Who Know the Water
At Roamly, we're not just insurance agents, we're boaters who know a PWC gets passed around the dock all summer. Coverage for a machine that fast, that small, and that popular with first-time riders should be built around how it actually gets used, and we'll help you find a policy that fits.
Jet ski insurance can be relatively affordable. As of October 2026, Progressive advertises basic liability-only PWC coverage starting as low as about $100 a year (not available in D.C.), and published estimates put typical PWC policies at roughly $100 to $500 a year. Supercharged, high-performance models can run higher, and agency estimates for those reach $800 or more a year. Your price depends on your PWC's year, make, model, value, and top speed, where you keep and ride it, and your riding experience.

Whether it's a solo morning run or a weekend of friends trading turns at the dock, Roamly works with carriers who understand personal watercraft. We'll help you find coverage so you can focus on the ride.
Your boat isn't just worth the Blue Book numbers. We'll find you a policy that insures it for what it's actually worth – including your upgraded electronics.
From shallow water prop strikes to dock collisions, we cover the stuff that actually happens to recreational boaters.
Our marine specialists actually spend their weekends on the water. They speak your language because they boat too.
Usually not. Standard homeowners policies typically don't extend liability to a personal watercraft you own, and any coverage for the PWC itself, such as theft or vandalism, is usually capped at a small, specified limit. A separate PWC or boat policy is usually the way to get real protection.
In most states, no law requires it, though a few states require liability coverage for certain motorized boats, and the rules vary by state. If you finance your PWC, your lender will likely require coverage, and many marinas ask for proof of insurance before you can keep it there.
It depends on the policy. Carriers we work with may cover people riding with your permission, but rules vary by carrier, and some carriers ask you to list household members and teen riders as operators. Minimum operating ages also vary by state, so check your state's rules before handing over the key.
The biggest factors are your PWC's year, make, model, and value, its horsepower and top speed, any performance modifications, where you store and ride it, your state, your riding experience and claims history, and the deductible you choose. Completing a boater safety course or insuring more than one PWC may also earn a discount with some carriers.
Policies typically exclude wear and tear, gradual deterioration, and damage from poor maintenance. Freezing damage may be excluded unless the PWC was winterized the way the policy requires, and a PWC modified for more speed may not be covered or eligible at all. Renting your PWC out or using it commercially isn't covered under a personal policy. Roamly can help you compare optional coverages, like mechanical breakdown, that may fill some of these gaps.
