Coverage Options for Trail, Enduro, and Off-Road Bikes, From Carriers Who Know the Trail
At Roamly, we're not just insurance agents — we're riders who know a dirt bike lives a different life than a street bike. It rides in the back of a truck, gets passed between family members, and spends weekends on trails and in riding parks, and we'll help you find a policy that fits how you ride.
Dirt bikes are usually among the least expensive motorcycles to insure, partly because most aren't ridden on public roads. As of October 2026, Progressive advertises liability-only coverage for dirt bikes starting as low as about $75 a year (not available in D.C.). One comparison site found average dirt bike insurance costs of about $13 a month for minimum coverage and about $66 a month for full coverage, averaging rates from three national carriers. Your price depends on your bike's value, who rides it, your riding record, where you live and store the bike, and the coverage you choose.

Get a Quote on Dirt Bike Insurance That Fits How You Ride
Whether it's weekend trail rides with the family or a long day at the riding park, Roamly works with carriers who understand off-road bikes. We'll help you find coverage so you can focus on the trail.
We know a cruiser isn't a sport bike. Roamly helps you find the coverage that fits with how you ride, from dirt trails to open roads.
Most insurers offer minimal coverage for custom parts. Our partners provide up to $20,000 in coverage for your aftermarket mods and custom work.
Most insurers don’t cover organized track events, riding schools, and time trials. Push your limits. We’ll make sure you’re covered.
It depends on your state and where you ride. Some states require liability insurance for off-road motorcycles, while others only require a registration or permit. Some riding parks and tracks may require proof of insurance, and a street-legal dirt bike needs to meet your state's motorcycle insurance requirements. Check the rules where you live and ride.
Usually not much. Homeowners policies often provide little or no coverage for off-road vehicles, especially once you ride off your own property, and they usually won't cover theft or damage to the bike itself. A separate dirt bike policy is the safer way to be covered.
Typically no. Most dirt bike and motorcycle policies exclude races, timed events, speed tests, and riding on a track. If you race, ask the track or event organizer about event coverage, and check whether a riding organization you belong to offers an accident medical plan.
Often, but they may need to be listed on the policy. Listing everyone who rides your dirt bike helps make sure your quote is accurate and that coverage applies when they ride. Carriers set their own rules for younger riders, so ask before you buy.
Yes, if you have comprehensive coverage. Liability-only policies don't cover your own bike, so if your dirt bike is stolen from your garage, truck, or trailer, you'd need comprehensive coverage for the theft to be covered, subject to your policy's terms and deductible.
Policies typically exclude racing, timed events, and track riding, along with wear and tear and normal maintenance. Liability-only policies don't cover damage to or theft of your own bike, and riding gear or aftermarket parts may not be covered unless the policy includes them. Roamly can help you compare optional coverages that may fill some of these gaps.
