Coverage Options for Supersports, Sport-Tourers, and Naked Bikes, From Carriers Who Know the Road
At Roamly, we're not just insurance agents — we're riders who know a sport bike gets priced differently than almost anything else on two wheels. Between the bike's value, the parts you've swapped, and how much experience you have, the quote you get from one carrier can look nothing like the next, and we'll help you find a policy that fits how you ride.
Sport bikes usually cost more to insure than cruisers or touring bikes, mostly because of repair costs, theft, and crash risk. As of October 2026, Progressive advertises liability-only motorcycle coverage starting as low as about $75 a year (not available in D.C.), and liability costs don't change much by bike type. Full coverage is where sport bikes cost more: one national analysis puts full coverage for a 40-year-old rider on a 1000cc Honda superbike at about $3,948 a year, and one comparison site's sample quotes put coverage at about $176 a month for a Kawasaki Ninja 400 and about $334 a month for a Ducati SuperSport. Your price depends on your bike's value and engine size, your age and riding experience, where you live and park, and the coverage you choose.

Get a Quote on Sport Bike Insurance That Fits How You Ride
Whether it's canyon runs on Sunday morning or a commute on your first bike, Roamly works with carriers who understand sport bikes. We'll help you find coverage so you can focus on the ride.
We know a cruiser isn't a sport bike. Roamly helps you find the coverage that fits with how you ride, from dirt trails to open roads.
Most insurers offer minimal coverage for custom parts. Our partners provide up to $20,000 in coverage for your aftermarket mods and custom work.
Most insurers don’t cover organized track events, riding schools, and time trials. Push your limits. We’ll make sure you’re covered.
Sport bikes cost more to repair, are popular with thieves, and carry a higher crash risk. A 2010 study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found the rider death rate on supersport motorcycles was about four times as high as on cruisers and standards. Liability costs don't change much by bike type, so most of the difference shows up in collision and comprehensive coverage.
Usually not. Many street motorcycle policies exclude riding in races, timed events, speed tests, or on a track, even at a non-competitive track day. If you ride track days, ask about it before you buy, and don't assume your street policy will cover a crash at the track.
Young riders pay the most for motorcycle insurance, and a sport bike adds to that. Completing a rider safety course, like the ones offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, can earn a discount with many carriers, and starting on a smaller, less expensive bike usually costs less to insure than a 1000cc superbike. An anti-theft device, a higher deductible, and comparing carriers can help too.
Almost every state requires liability coverage to ride a motorcycle on public roads, and minimum limits vary by state. If you finance your bike, your lender will likely require comprehensive and collision coverage too.
The biggest factors are your bike's make, model, value, and engine size, your age and riding experience, your riding record and claims history, where you live and park the bike, your credit in states that allow it, and the coverage and deductible you choose.
Policies typically exclude racing and track riding, wear and tear, and normal maintenance. Aftermarket parts beyond your custom equipment limit and modifications you didn't disclose may not be fully covered, and riding gear coverage varies: some carriers include a set amount with comprehensive and collision, while others offer it as an add-on. Roamly can help you compare optional coverages that may fill some of these gaps.
